I am a Senior Staff Engineer and software architect with 15+ years of experience building secure, high-performance systems across Windows, Linux, and macOS.

My work focuses on modern C++, systems programming, networking, endpoint security, and cross-platform product architecture. I design and evolve software that operates close to the operating system, handles complex network traffic, and must remain reliable across large enterprise environments.

I have led platform modernization initiatives, re-architected monolithic components, improved build and delivery systems, and driven security architecture reviews and threat modelling across the software development lifecycle. I am also exploring how agentic AI and developer tooling can accelerate code understanding, architecture, debugging, and engineering productivity.

Structure, Design, Extensible and User Experience – Foundations for an Automation Framework

Published
Arvind Srinivasa Babu, Abhishek Sharma, Hemant Prasad

Our team works on a native application that is deployed on tens of millions of machines worldwide. Frequent release commitments, new features and the agile process, stresses our need to increasingly speed up our validation process and our use of automation. Over the course of the past decade, we developed couple of frameworks focused on features, services, or just simply automating our test suites. This worked well in the short-term but was unable to scale with our validation processes, which grew with every feature and release. In this paper, we will highlight some of our pitfalls and how we overcame them by structuring our automation suite, segregating design, test suites, and considering the user experience in adding new test cases and extending the framework itself.

Embedding Security in Product Life Cycle

Presented
Arvind Srinivasa Babu, Deepti Chauhan

A product goes through several processes before it is released into the market. An oversimplified process will involve a lot of planning, analysis, design, development, testing and marketing before a release. But how many products involve security in this lifecycle? During a product's lifecycle, a lot of new features, bug fixes and other development activities take place which essentially means that new code is being added. Though this code might stand up against good product test cases, what is the confidence level that this new code has not opened a backdoor or added a vulnerability that would allow an attacker to exploit, monitor or cause damage? This paper will explain how some best security practices can be incorporated within a product lifecycle. We will also demonstrate why it is essential to maintain threat models up-to-date for every release which allows automation of security test cases as the product evolves. Automated security test cases allow us to add security as part of a Continuous Integration(CI)/Continuous Delivery(CD) pipeline. There are several open source tools that allow testing different aspects of security on a product, we will glance over some of these tools and the functionality they bring to security testing.

Testing Cloud Hosted Solutions in Production

Presented
Arvind Srinivasa Babu, Sajeed Mayabba Kunhi, Joshy Jose A

The evolution of software from a simple application running in an isolated system to a multi-node solution in a network and now to a geographically distributed cloud solution with hundreds or thousands of nodes, has brought about new testing challenges. Testing strategies which work well in one model are not always applicable to others. While many of the tests for a cloud-hosted solution can be done by replicating a subset of the actual production environment, some tests need a production-like environment to be effective. This could be challenging if the hosted solution is complex or large. Though one might successfully replicate the production environment for testing, it is very difficult or too expensive to replicate end user behaviour, as the sample set of users in cloud could be very large. One option to overcome the given problem is to perform the testing in a live production environment. This paper attempts to bring forth the challenges and possible suggestions for testing cloud hosted solutions in a live production environment.

A Hybrid Genetic Algorithm Approach to a Departmental Class Timetabling Problem Using Efficient Data Structures

Published
Arvind Srinivasa Babu, Chockalingam R, S. Kavitha

The application of Genetic Algorithm with a local search operation performed within its loop has provided very accurate results, but the algorithm take a lot of time to arrive at an optimal solution. This paper describes the use of a Hybrid Genetic Algorithm using efficient data structures to automate the construction of a departmental class timetable. This problem is concerned with the allocation of faculty resources to concerned Student-Groups and their corresponding timeslots. The quality of the solution is determined in terms of a penalty value which determines the degree to which various constraints are satisfied. This algorithm is tested over established datasets and the performance of the algorithm over different datasets. The result has confirmed that this algorithm in conjuncture with efficient data structures is able to produce high quality solutions for a departmental class timetable with short span of time. It is thus concluded that organization of data plays a major role in the performance of the Hybrid Genetic Algorithm to produce high quality solutions.
